A user turned Boffin! Described work carried out at CSE to assist users to browse and select documents. Three types of visualisation have been trialed including a document landscape where each document is shown as a small bitmap.

It was said that an understanding of the analytic process from a cognitive/perceptual perspective is needed.

Sun Creator 3D workstations with the possibility of moving to VRML to access more users. Also possibility of inclusion of software agents in future.

Suggested a map metaphor for display of information. His view is that most analysts will find the map metaphor intuitive.
